Abstract: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a part of hepatic manifestation of the metabolic syndrome. Its main features are fat deposition in liver and insulin resistance (IR). Adipokines, a group of polypeptides secreted by adipocyte cells, play an important role in the pathogenesis of NAFLD and IR. In this paper, the focus is emphasized on the roles of adipokines in NAFLD,such as leptin, adiponectin, retinol binding protein 4,fibroblast growth factor 21,chemerin and other emerging factors.
