Multimodal ultrasound features of inflammatory pseudotumor of liver: Analysis of 40 cases

Abstract: Objective The aim of this study was to summarize multimodal ultrasound features of inflammatory pseudotumor of liver (IPT). Methods The clinical and multimodal ultrasound, e.g., two-dimensional ultrasound, color Doppler, ultrasound elastography, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound CEUS) data were collected from 40 patients with pathologically confirmed IPT in our hospital between August 2023 and August 2025. The multimodal ultrasound features were summarized. Results Two-dimensional ultrasonography showed that the maximum diameter in the 40 patients with IPT was (4.2±2.3) cm, main located in right lobe(77.5%), irregular shape (67.5%), hypoecho (80.0%), blurred boundary (62.5%) and uneven internal echo (77.5%), liquefactive necrosis in 14 cases(35.0%), color Doppler ultrasonography showed blood flow signals in 12 cases (30.0%) ; ultrasound elastography showed that average elasticity score of lesions in 40 patients with IPT was (1.95±0.85) points, with low to medium stiffness; CEUS demonstrated that enhancement initiation time, time to peak and clearance time were (15.2±1.3) s, (23.5±2.1) s and (36.6±4.3) s, respectively; percentage of even enhancement patterns at arterial phase was 27.5%, uneven was (25.0%) and ring-like enhancement was (25.0%); hyper-enhancement was 57.5%, blurred boundary after enhancement was 80.0%, hypoecho at portal/delayed phase was 70.0%, and fast in and fast out was 72.5%. Conclusion IPT has multimodal ultrasonographic features, which might help clinicians make up surgery plan preoperatively.
