Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of ornithine aspartate granules on the level of serum gamma-glutamyltransferase(GGT) in patients with chronic liver diseases. Methods The patients with high level of serum GGT with chronic liver diseases were treated by oral ornithine aspartate granules while the control group were treated by oral bicyclol tablets for 30 days. Results The GGT level before and after treatment were 196.98±190.80 U/L and 96.10±89.84 U/L in ornithine aspartate treatment group(P<0.01),while the GGT level were 168.06±87.10 U/L and 117.30±52.63 U/L in bicyclol treatment group(P<0.05),respectively.However,the GGT leves in both groups was not significantly different. The GGT levels were positively related to the ALT levels(P<0.001)in both groups. Conclusions Ornithine aspartate granules and bicyclol tablets can reduce serum GGT level and improve inflammation of the liver damage in patients with high level of serum GGT with chronic liver diseases.
