Abstract: Objective To identify the relationship between hepatitis B viral(HBV)DNA levels and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)recurrence in patients undergoing transcatherter arterial chemoembolization(TACE). Methods 193 patients with HBV-related HCC were treated with TACE. Then, the risk factors for posttreatment recurrence of HCC were analyzed. Results 169 cases(87.6%)developed tumor recurrence two years after TACE;Multivariate analysis showed that Child-Pugh class B or C,multiple tumors, larger tumors and high HBV viral DNA levels were the independent risk factors for recurrence of HCC.Conclusion High serum HBV DNA level before TACE is one of the most important risk factors for posttreatment recurrence.
